Chien Shiung Wu was an ambitious student in China and she was always among the top in her class. She moved to America for graduate school. After finishing her degree she became involved in the Manhattan Project to develop atomic bombs. She along with her colleagues made a lot of discoveries in physics, and she received many honors and awards for it.
Seeing as the media and often society just show women as sex objects and symbols of men’s success I wanted to highlight a few women from history to show how valuable women really are, and that their contributions to society are appreciated.

Entry 7: Clara Barton: (1821-1912)
Clara Barton was always a caregiver. She was extremely generous, often working for free. During the American Civil War she was a nurse that traveled with the army, serving alongside the soldiers. Later in life she traveled to Europe, and while she was in Switzerland she learned about the Red Cross. She volunteered with the Red Cross during the Franco-Prussian War. After returning home she established the American Red Cross and was its first president.

Entry 6: Marie Madeline Cardon (1834-1914)
Marie Madeline Cardon with her family were some of the first people in Italy to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. One day they were hosting a meeting at their home when an angry mob came to harm the missionaries who were there. Marie courageously went out to confront the mob. She told them that the missionaries were under her protection and that they could not harm a hair on their heads. Astonished the mob left.

Entry 5: Mother Teresa (1910-1997)
Agnes Bojaxhiu (Later, Mother Teresa) left her Eastern Europe home at age 18 to be a missionary with the Sisters of Loreto, a religious congregation dedicated to education.
She traveled to Bengal and taught at a school in Calcutta. Being disturbed by all the suffering around her, she felt she received a divine call to help the poor while living among them. After leaving the Sisters of Loreto she passed through much difficulty. It was during this time she learned how the poor must feel. She started the Missionaries of Charity organization whose mission was to care for people who were suffering--whether it be physically, socially, mentally, or spiritually. Entry 4: Joan of Arc (1412-1431)
Born a Peasant, Joan of Arc believed to have received instructions from Heavenly Messengers to recover France from England. With no military experience, she obeyed. By King Charles VII, she was placed at the head of an army. She helped boost the moral of the French and turn the tide of the war. She was executed as a prisoner of war, having accomplished all she did in her teenage years.

Entry 3: Rosa Parks (1913-2005)
Rosa Parks is considered the Mother of the Freedom Movement. In 1955 she courageously refused to give up her bus-seat to a white man and was arrested for it. She worked hard promoting the civil rights movement and was persecuted for it, including several death threats. However, she never gave up and never gave in. Upon her death she laid in honor at the US Capitol Rotunda.
Rosa Parks se considera la Madre del movimiento de la liberación. En 1955, ella valientemente se negó a ceder su asiento de autobús a un hombre blanco. Por esto ella fue arrestada. Entry 2: Elizabeth I (1533-1603)
At a young age Elizabeth I’s mother was beheaded by order of her father. Afterwards she was declared an illegitimate daughter of her father. She was persecuted and imprisoned for her religion by her half-sister. She became queen of England in 1559. Notwithstanding the injustices in her life, she reigned more justly than those preceding her. She stood by her people in battle. Her reign saw England emerge as a world power.
Cuando Elizabeth I era muy joven, su madre fue decapitada por la orden de su padre. Despues ella fue declarada como una hija ilegítima de su padre. Entry 1: Betsy Ross (1752-1836)
Betsy Ross was a true American Patriot. She served in the Revolutionary War as a seamstress. She lost two husbands to that war. She is credited with sewing the very first American Flag, which has become a symbol to the world of the nation she supported.
